@jabel not Todd but I guess that depends on what your definition of “privacy focused” means. Fastmail is great. It is not end-to-end encrypted but it’s one of the best computing-related things I’ve paid for bar none.
@manton people put way too much into all of these numbers. It’s worse on the social media platforms where somehow number of followers translates to “your opinion means something”. Even with the counts hidden on his discover page there is still some signal that higher read counts mean something. Would be more useful in my opinion for him to ditch the upvote button completely and just make trending based on the number of hits a post is getting.

@manton somewhat related…how about a delay in a blog post hitting the RSS feed like they do with Pika? Or maybe that’s already happening but I haven’t timed it. A nice thing for people like me who always notice something right after hitting the publish button ;)
@jsonbecker not to mention that Trump is the definition of elitist. Guy who grew up with a single mom and was a community organizer is “elitist” because he made something of himself but the guy born rich who has profited in the billions from being in the White House isn’t is beyond stupidity. But people obviously buy into that crap.

@mindofaaronw @bloftin2 what I find interesting is the folks on Mastodon/Bluesky are almost guaranteed to react to something making huge assumptions about you because they don’t like what you said. They’d rather lash out than actually, I dunno, ask you more about it. Like the idiot who called me an “ablist cunt”. Or the douchebag who said “People who have never once thought about a disabled person in their lives suddenly become the world’s biggest (and wrongest) accessibility advocates the moment you criticise a technology they like.”. This person literally saw one response to one post I made. I’d doubt they even read the post. How the hell do they know I’m not disabled?!? Thankfully I’m not but there isn’t a damned thing they could have read that would let them know either way. Or for that matter friends/family with disabilities. In that case I certainly have friends/family who do. How do they know what I think about AI? Which were all the reasons for the blog post. But whaddya gonna do. 🤷♂️

@canneddragons interesting. that’s happened to me as well. especially when I had my Etymotics in-ear buds. Could hear things so clearly some of the music did in fact give me the chills.

@manton yeah I kinda see it as a neat place to visit once in awhile. The couple of times I was there the population density would have been too much on a daily basis. FWIW my kid now lives in Chicago (city itself) and loves it but Chicago is nowhere near the density of NYC. I’d love to get back to downtown again but again, Chicago isn’t NYC haha.
